Hi and welcome to Literary Hype. I am Stephanie, your literary hype man, and I have a treat for all my Twi hards.
00;00;10;00 - 00;00;17;12
Unknown
I got the chance to talk to Peter Facinelli about his time on Twilight. He is the one who plays Carlisle. Yes, I got daddy Carlisle.
00;00;17;17 - 00;00;19;21
Unknown
on literary hype. You're welcome.
00;00;19;24 - 00;00;28;17
Unknown
So we're talking all about the long lasting impact of Twilight and that franchise, as well as a new project he's got coming up with one of his fellow Twilight actresses.
00;00;28;17 - 00;00;37;01
Unknown
So here's my conversation with Peter Facinelli. from planet Comic-Con.
00;00;37;03 - 00;00;53;12
Unknown
Well, welcome to literary hype. So exciting to talk to you because you are kind of an icon in the Asian space for portraying Carlyle. I'll take it. But before we get to talking about the memories of Carlyle, I did a photo op with you guys about a year ago where I came in with all the books on my head.
00;00;53;13 - 00;01;03;06
Unknown
Okay. How many books? How many books do you think Carlyle could carry on his head? Wow. At least 100. He's got all the cap skills.
00;01;03;06 - 00;01;13;28
Unknown
Remember that modeling thing back in the day? I could see Carlisle being part of the modeling walk. They always walk, so, you know, straight and the color.
00;01;13;28 - 00;01;32;00
Unknown
And then. Yeah, the cones have all the special skills. Walking with puts a, Twilight book series. Exactly. You got to have the whole set. I mean, my records. 28. I feel like Carlisle could easily, easily break that. That is 20. It's a lot. I had my manager made me limit it to how many I could catch.
00;01;32;05 - 00;01;48;21
Unknown
So it's as long as my arm. I don't even know. So how long you been doing the books on your head? Like 12 years. Years? 12. 13 years. Is that it? Feel like that should be in the Guinness Book of World Records? Of it. Do you ever try it with the Guinness Book of World Records? No. I'm sure there's somebody much better at it than I am.
00;01;48;22 - 00;02;07;25
Unknown
This was just bought boredom in a book store, right? But it's been 20 years since Twilight came out. And the movie. Yeah. For the book? Yeah. The book. The book. The book is 20. The movie is 17 or 18. Yeah. So what is it about these characters that has held through time and still has people lining up to see you?
00;02;07;27 - 00;02;27;15
Unknown
I was going to ask you. I was going to ask you. You're the literary aficionado, right? But the, I don't know, you know, werewolves, vampires, allure. Or there's, it's, there's a little bit of, like, Romeo and Juliet, and then it's a movie, but it's also a book about family, like, supporting each other. There's there's a misfit group of people coming together.
00;02;27;16 - 00;02;40;27
Unknown
You know, there's, there's a lot of layers in that, but let's, I think, appeal to people. I think, I hope I am I it's been almost 20 years and people still come. So, I've just been very humbled to be a part of
00;02;41;00 - 00;02;47;01
Unknown
What's it like for you now, seeing all the people who were teenagers when Twilight first came out as adults going, you know, we really missed out.
00;02;47;01 - 00;03;08;07
Unknown
It was Carlisle and Charlie the whole time. Carlisle. I like the ship. Carlisle. Your team. Carlisle. That's. You needed to be. I tell you, it's a blast is when I, meet fans that you know, it just shows how fast time goes. Like, I met a fan who, I had a picture of the fan, and they had a baby, and they brought their baby today, and.
00;03;08;07 - 00;03;25;11
Unknown
And the baby was 16. So, that that was a blink of an eye for that. Mom and I have kids myself. I just know how fast the time goes. And, you know, almost 20 years. Like you said, it's been a blink of an eye. It doesn't feel like it for sure. I'm sure for a lot of people that, grew up with those books, it doesn't feel like it either.
00;03;25;11 - 00;03;33;20
Unknown
So I guess the moral of the story is, yeah, the life goes by very fast. So you have to like, you know, laugh. Enjoy it.
00;03;33;23 - 00;03;49;08
Unknown
if we could convince Stephanie Meyer to write a story about Carlisle, specifically, what moments of his life would you want it to focus on? Wow. I mean, there's 3 in 50 years there. Carlisle, before he meets, you know, you get to meet him in the books.
00;03;49;10 - 00;04;11;20
Unknown
There's a lot there's a lot to to sink your teeth and serious. Is that, And I don't know, I there's I always wondered why Carlisle loves baseball. There's a whole, you know, imagination that I have. I imagine that he came to America. And there was the 1920s when baseball was a national pastime. And, like, exploding in America.
00;04;11;22 - 00;04;23;16
Unknown
I imagine he was there when, Babe Ruth, you know, hit his famous homerun shot. And so it'd be fun to see, Carlisle in the 1920s. People that I like this for that period and,
00;04;23;18 - 00;04;24;14
Unknown
yeah.
00;04;24;17 - 00;04;33;03
Unknown
At your panel, you guys showed a little, trailer for your movie that you have coming up with Ashley. So for anybody who hasn't heard about that, you guys have a movie coming out together.
00;04;33;03 - 00;04;53;05
Unknown
What? What is that about? I directed Ashley Greene in a movie called Grace. Period. Seth Green is also in it. He's fabulous. And I did what we call Can't hardly Wait with Seth Green. And so Seth and Ashley are so funny in it. They're really wonderful in it. Really great cast. Cast. Beverly D'Angelo is in it.
00;04;53;07 - 00;04;54;01
Unknown
Natasha.
00;04;54;01 - 00;05;15;28
Unknown
The zeroes in it. Matt friend is in it. Incredible. Incredible cast. So it's a it's a movie about a woman who finds out when she turns 30 that she has a low egg count. She has the freezer eggs. So it's a it's a little bit of, about a woman going through the process of IVF, and, and, and Seth helps her through it and then kind of and falling for her.
00;05;15;28 - 00;05;33;09
Unknown
And, it's a sweet story, and I just, I just hope, you guys check it out because it's, makes me a proud mom, but is he actually just crushing it in the comedy space? And, and there's so much talent that surrounds her, so keep an eye out for it. Grace. Period. Probably end of this year begins now.
00;05;33;14 - 00;05;52;16
Unknown
you guys have such a great relationship from Twilight and doing all these conventions since. How did that help you direct her as an actor? I mean, we've been wanting to work together for a while. I remember because I've directed three movies now, and I remember I had a con, we were on stage, we were doing a Q&A and, and, somebody asked, would you ever want Peter to direct you?
00;05;52;16 - 00;06;09;05
Unknown
And she said, yeah, I would love that, you know, because I know, I mean, I was there for her first film job was, I think Twilight was her first film job. So. So it is. And watch her grow as an artist and to know how funny she is in real life and want to be able to tap into that, and have the world see it, I was, very excited.
00;06;09;05 - 00;06;24;27
Unknown
And there's a trust there. You know, I think she she really trusted me. And I was able to, like, push her. So I, I really enjoyed I really enjoyed the process with it. It looks so good. I cannot wait to check it out. So the trailer itself is so funny. So I'm sure the movie's even better. Great.
00;06;24;27 - 00;06;45;12
Unknown
It's great. And since this is literary hype, what books are you hyped about? Wow. What else am I have to buy right now? Ha! I've been. I've been busy reading scripts, so maybe you have some recommendations for me. Oh, what genre do you like to read? I like a little bit. Everything's, you know, what's a good.
00;06;45;14 - 00;07;04;15
Unknown
It's a good future novel. I like science fiction. Science fiction? Poster girl by Veronica Roth. Okay, okay. I look at her, she's like an encyclopedia of knowledge with books. You know, I wrote a book called after the Red reign with, very like, you know, very, like, is weird. No, I do not. And Rob DeFranco co-wrote it with me as well.
00;07;04;20 - 00;07;20;25
Unknown
And, that's that's a little Brown books, has I? So if you guys are looking for a book two after the Red reign, it's, it's a futuristic, dystopian novel love story in there, too. A lot of fun. It's been out for a while. But. But check it out. Yeah, I'll have to check that out in the next time I see you at a con.
00;07;20;25 - 00;07;31;20
Unknown
We'll have to talk about that. Yeah. She has a book report now. Yes. That it to the TBR. Like, just put it on your. It's the stack of books say yeah I'll just carry my whole TBR in my head now. Yeah. Thanks so much for hanging out with literary hype.
00;07;31;23 - 00;07;35;02
Unknown
Thank you guys.
00;07;35;04 - 00;07;49;19
Unknown
thanks again to Peter for taking a few minutes out of his very busy signing schedule. He was going for nonstop for a very long time to meet fans, so I greatly appreciate him taking a few minutes to talk to me all about Grace period, and the Twilight franchise.
00;07;49;26 - 00;08;01;02
Unknown
